Throwback Thursday

Sherlock is quite the figure in the mystery genre and made popular most recently by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Sherlock has been around since 1887, introduced first from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in “A Study in Scarlet”, but even more recently in other films and TV shows as well.

One of the first exposures I had to Sherlock was in his representation as a Mouse in The Great Mouse Detective as Basil Rathbone. Rattigan is his nemesis such as Moriarty is Sherlock’s nemesis. Dawson is the version of Watson and there are many similarities. A 1986 Disney animated film, it was one of my first experiences with the mastermind detective.

The films with Robert Downey Jr. played a role in my love of Sherlock and led to my reading of some of the stories in my adulthood. There were two films originally and a third announced for 2020, now pushed back to 2021. His Watson is played by the amazing Jude Law.

Before I was able to watch BBC, I was found pulled into a show called Elementary which started in 2012, which had a twist on Sherlock played by Jonny Lee Miller, featuring a female Watson (Lucy Lu) who starts off as a companion due to his drug addiction. A looser version of Sherlock, it’s American-ized, but I really enjoyed what I watched of the show.

BBC’s Sherlock started in 2010 with Benedict Cumberbatch and is still said to be releasing a new season TBD. Probably one of the most popular and widely watched, it also features another highly renowned actor as Watson (Martin Freeman). The episodes are long and keep more true to the books, except set in more modern times.

I’m sure there have been others of Sherlock, but those I have seen myself. I have even read the mangas based off of the BBC show, which were really enjoyable. The author is Jay and you can find a link to the Sherlock manga series on Goodreads.

Wednesday Weekly Reads

Welcome back to Wednesday Weekly Reads… Last week was absent as I was working til really late and didn’t have a chance to set this up!!!

Katja’s Current Read:
I’m about halfway through, and I love the story so far! The main character, Jude, and her mother moves to America to get away from the conflict in Syria. It’s such a powerful story about what a home is, belonging, culture, and family!
Kristen’s Current Read:
This is a reread for me I’m loving the audio narration and all the trouble the main character is seeing herself into!!! Probably one of my favorite series and I just love Jacky’s tenacity no matter the situation.
Louise-Ellen’s Current Read:
OMG I’m hooked there are 30 books in this series and ive read 7 in 2 days Hahaha!
Jodie’s Current Read:
I’ve been reading this one for a couple of weeks and am really liking the book, although it is so tense at times it is stressing me out. It is progressing really well.
Britt’s Read:
I wish I knew about the book before I watched the movie because I knew what was going to happen and it took away the creepy mystery of it but I can say the movie stuck really well to the book!
Taylor’s Current Read:
This is a suspenseful read, dreams turning into Nightmares!! I Love it so far!!!
Laetitia’s Current Read:
This is like nothing I’ve ever read. It is full of weird contradictions and doesn’t seem like it should work but it really really does. It’s such a weird quirky concept, (Human embodiments of New York City fight what is essentially an alien Karen) but a dark and gritty urban fantasy. It is written with humour and heart, but deals with racism, sexism, homophobia and with a multitude of agression and microaggressions.
I’m utterly loving it but it is making me so angry and would highly recommend to everyone.
Emma’s Current Read:
I’ve only just begun the book and an less than 10 pages in but from the cutesy title and fun book cover, this truly feels like itll be a great read
Cabiria’s Current Read:
“By the title and the idea that fate can not be deterred tells me the outcome but how I wish it didn’t have to be. This story has dragged me in and the hopes and dreams Cath has I have for her. I hope all turns out well but I fear I already know the outcome. Interesting tale.”
Nicola’s Current Read:
I did have 2 others to add here but I finished them today… So onto this one, I’ve been looking to get my Historian moho back for a while and am starting with the above!!! I have only read the preface so far but boy am I looking forward to travelling through the Cult of Personality!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Today we are doing a Louise-Ellen Bowling Denham love in… This woman is my right hand in the Hobbit Realm and I’m not sure what I would do without her!!!

She’s an excellent asset in the reading stakes but is also a very talented cross-stitcher!!! In her spare time, although with my demands she doesn’t get much!!! She is an Owl Extraordinaire as per the below and will do them on order…

An Owl in Progress!

She is also currently doing a Once Upon a Time Cross-stitch that comes as a weekly instalment… Ask her how far she is to see more!!

Not only is she an awesome Crosstitcher she dabbles in Harry Potter Fanfiction. The subgenre I believe is Drarry – Draco & Harry MM Romance 😍😍… Romance isn’t my thing but check Lou’s work out it is pretty gooooodddd!!!
