Weekend Warriors

Welcome to Weekend Warriors, and our January wrap-up! Today we’re going to shout out the players who were able to complete their challenges and bonus activities! January felt like it was three months long, but I know I also wanted more reading days, and I’m sure you all felt the same way.

Let’s start with the Easy TAG game – ONCE UPON A TIME. Congratulations to the following readers who read a book for each letter!

Gryffindor – Head of House Nicola Jayne Hall, House Prefect Nicole Coster, and Brandy Musselman

Ravenclaw – Sharon Angle-Boyer

Moving on to Hard TAG – MAD HATTER’S TEA PARTY. Congratulations to the following TBLers who completed the game!

Gryffindor – HoH Nicola Jayne Hall and Lauren Dunton Low

Next up, Cryptic Carnival! Let’s give a cheer to the following players who earned stamps on their carnival tickets:

Gryffindor – HoH Nicola Jayne Hall and Brandy Musselman

Hufflepuff – Laetitia Brunell and Simone Clark

Given the month’s theme, the group took a trip to Wonderland with a group read of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Who joined in this whimsical trip? Lions Nicola Jayne Hall (HoH) and Louise-Ellen Bowling Denham (prefect); Puffs Laetitia Brunell and Simone Clark; and Claw Sarah Parker. Hope you enjoyed your tea party, ladies!

Later in the month, the monthly TBL Readathon provided a chance to earn some extra points and put a dent in those TBRs! Nicola Jayne Hall of the Lions and Lindsey Malick of the Claws earned their teams some bonus points – well done!

February’s games are now underway – remember to check out the Events tab on our Facebook page to check out our offerings and join in. This month’s theme is contemporary romance, but of course we’ve put our special TBL spin on the reading prompts. Will you give easy or hard TAG a try? Want to earn a stamp for your Cryptic Carnival ticket? The month is young – come on down!

Monday Member Madness

We are going back to out usual Member Madness today and taking inspiration from our awesome Headmistress, Britt, I am highlighting some of TBL’s amazing Authors… Starting with Allie York!!

Goodreads Description

Eliza: My life is perfect. I have a luxurious apartment and my dream job. I also have a sister willing to sign me up for a dating app against my better judgment. I promise her one week before the app is deleted forever.
All it takes is one week before I’m matched with two amazing men and my perfect life becomes a perfect disaster.
Murphy: I needed a drastic change and I got it. My move from the middle of nowhere to the city lands me in a classy part of town with an upscale job. All I need is a personal life to match. So, I join the masses and download an app.
A match with the woman of my dreams has me considering a future. The only problem is that
I’m not the only one wanting to make her mine.
After all, 425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love!

This would be a good one for Romance Bingo… Love Triangle prompt!!

Wednesday’s Weekly Reads

Britt’s Current Read – I tried reading this book at the end of 2018 but I ended up slumping and putting it aside. I have now picked it back up and have decided to give it a second chance…
Cabiria’s Current Read – I’ve heard all the hype of this book and it seems quite interesting so finally my turn to pick it up. I was nervous and excited and the first part has me intrigued and I wonder what will happen next. It’s daring and the story so far draws you in.
Jodie’s Current Read – This is book 4 of a series that hasn’t let up for a moment! I have no idea where it’ll end up but I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.
Courtney’s Current Read – I am buddy reading this with Emma. I am very excited about this book because I loved the writing style of The Selection. I have very high hopes!
Tatiana’s Current Read – This is a reread for me but I do love the world! I am excited to possibly find things I missed during my first read!
Emma’s Current Read – It’s not as emotional as I thought it would be but I still have a lot left so I hope it becomes something that keeps me thinking. Otherwise I am devouring it!
Taylor’s Current Read – This is a true crime story based on the search for the Golden State Killer who brought fear to Americans during the 1970s and 1980s. It is really fascinating to read this take on serial Killers between the ages (1970s and Modern Day) and the investigations to track them down.
Katja’s Current Read – I have just started this book and I already love the story! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
Nicola’s Current Read – I have been waiting for this book to come out for months! I am 7 Chapters in and it does not disappoint! Elizabeth Kendall is able to weave you into her life so that you feel the tension and frustration she felt. I haven’t got to the fearful sections yet but the anticipation is building!
Louise-Ellen’s Current Read – This is a very good book! It is a reread for me as I had the ARC for it a while ago. I have gone for an Audio reread and it is truly a fantastic book!
Nicole’s Current Read – Having read ‘Between the World and Me’, I knew that the author has great skill with words, but his fiction is absolutely gorgeous. This is a powerful and difficult story about slavery with a touch of magical realism. I’m listening to the Audiobook, and the narrator is wonderful! Overall, I’m enjoying the reading so far!

TAG Tuesday’s

Let’s start the year with a massive tome that is on the 2020 Booket List Challenge and fits January’s Classic Theme… Les Miserables by Victor Hugo!

Introducing one of the most famous characters in literature, Jean Valjean – the noble peasant imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread – Les Miserables ranks among the greatest novels of all time. In it, Victor Hugo takes readers deep into the Parisian underworld, immerses them in a battle between good and evil, and carries them to the barricades during the uprising of 1832 with a breathtaking realism that is surpassed in modern prose. Within his dramatic story are themes that capture the intellect and the emotions: crime and punishment, the relentless persecution of Valjean by Inspector Javert, the desperstion of the prostitute Fantine, the amorality of the rogue Thenardier, and the universal desire to escape the prisons of our own minds. Les Miserables gave Victor Hugo a canvas upon which he portrayed his criticism of the French political and judicial systems, but the portrait that resulted is larger than life, epic in scope – an extravagant spectacle that dazzles the senses even as it touches the heart.
